The concept of The Language Cafe originated in Austria, was brought to Bahrain approx. one year ago by Yusuf Mukhtar, a Bahraini language lover, who speaks fluently Arabic, German, English, Spanish and Farsi.
In Austria and especially Vienna, famous for large coffee shops, different country flags are placed on the various tables and people just join the table of the language they like to practise and enhance their language skills. The flags function as an icebreaker, so it is so easy to engage with people who like, learn or speak the same language and want to practise it.
Here in Bahrain the Bahrain Language Exchange group meets weekly, every Saturday, in different coffee shops or restaurants around Bahrain to enjoy good conversations in the various languages like Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese and Italian as well as exchange experience from the natives of the respective countries.
It is not only about practising the various languages, but as well cultural and experience exchange, since cultural intelligence is a very important factor in the globally connected world, where connections are nowadays not only limited to your area, country or region, but global.
Monthly a special event is organized, e.g like international picknic, where participants have to bring food from their home country for sharing or movie screening to learn about living, working or migrating to another country, or soon a cooking class.
The weekly gatherings are free of charge and everyone who likes languages and meeting people from various backgrounds is welcome to join.
